Hot News: DeLorean Solstice

Here's an interesting one: the DeLorean Solstice. Log on to DeLorean Motor Company's Web site and you'll notice a banner ad for "NewDeLorean.com". The link takes you to a placeholder with another link to a Facebook account and the above illustration of a very Pontiac Solstice-looking roadster.

DeLorean's Facebook page offers a cryptic message: "What if John DeLorean were still alive? Some of his greatest automotive accomplishments were at Pontiac, and now the Solstice is a new car without a brand, and DeLorean is brand without a new car..."

GM's Wilmington, Delaware plant, where the U.S. market Solstice and Saturn Sky were built, closed in July of 2009 and it's possible the automaker would sell it and the Solstice tooling if the price was right. While we'd love to see a revival of the rear-drive Kappa platform, any company that attempted it -- DeLorean or otherwise -- would have to have some incredibly serious resources behind it to have a chance.

At this point, DeLorean's business consists of servicing and providing parts for the quirky gullwing coupe made famous in the "Back to the Future" movies.

Can it happen? We suppose anything's possible but we have our suspicions. Tell us yours below.
