New Car: 2011 Fiat Uno

Fiat are hoping that this new Uno will be a South American number one! Official pictures of the second-generation of the Uno have been released, with the car primed to go into production at the company’s Betim factory in Brazil.

The new Uno will come with two “fuel-flex” engines, giving varying power outputs depending on whether you run them on bio-ethanol or petrol. The base model is a 1.0-litre unit putting out 73bhp if you fill it with alcohol and 75bhp with petrol. The other option is a 1.4-litre version (85bhp on alcohol, 88bhp on petrol). Both engines are mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

The new Uno will be a roomy hatchback rather than a supermini, and slots comfortably into the Fiat range between the current Panda and the Grande Punto. At 3.77m long it has an nearly 20cm of extra room over the Panda, and is wider as well.

This model shown in the pictures is a high-riding crossover version called the ‘Way’, which has better ground clearance and chunky colour contrasting bumpers. Inside, the cabin is a little more basic than we’re used to, but the body design takes several cues from the smaller Panda, which has lead to speculation that the Uno is set to replace the Panda in Europe.

Although it will be on sale in several South American countries, starting with Brazil, Fiat has yet to confirm whether it will appear in the U.K. For more details click here.
