The wait is over. Fiat officially unveiled its anticipated 500 today, along with more than one hundred press shots. Following the 50th anniversary of the original iconic 500, the new 500 went on sale immediately. The 500 looks exactly like its ancestor and it follows previous retro-evolutionary vehicles like the MINI Cooper and the Volkswagen New Beetle. However, Fiat intends to market this at a low price which will definitely appeal to everyone. The 500 is widely customizable with a variety of roof designs, body decals, stylish wheels, and even different key styles.
The Cinquecento will be available with a 69HP 1.2L, 75HP 1.3L turbodiesel, and a 1.4L producing 100HP. Fiat will later announce the Abarth version which will be packed with more juice than the conventional 500. Word is that we'll see the 500 sometime after 2010, which is pretty long away. However, if Fiat wants the 500 to be the iPod of cars as they've stated, they better hurry up and start ramping up production for markets other than Europe.
