Abarth 500 by NOVITEC

Fiat tuning specialist Novitec has a new package for the Fiat 500 Abarth sport model.

For the outside, Novitec offers just a few sporting touches such as the new front spoiler and spoiler lip and the black-tinted lateral turn signals.

The real stuff goes on underneath, where Novitec provides several power options on the 500 Abarth's series 135 PS / 99 kW 1.4 liter T-Jet engine.

The first stage dials output up substantially to 164 PS / 121 kW. But the top offering takes the 500 Abarth to 212 PS / 156 kW and 325 Nm of torque (series 206 Nm).

The NOVITEC NT4-CORSE is the premium package and costs €3,016. It includes that maximum power boost which comes by means of a new turbocharger, an optimized air intake system with sport air filter, new injector nozzles, fuel pressure control, a sport exhaust system and some ECU tinkering.

The NT4-CORSE make the 500 Abarth good for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 223 km/h.

To go with all that additional power, Novitec offers two suspension options. Novitec sport springs lower the ride height of the 500 Abarth by 35 mm. The Novitec stainless-steel sport suspension kit offers a height-adjustable ride.

Wheels on offer are 17 or 18 inch in diameter. The NOVITEC N10 single-piece, light alloy wheels come in size 7.5J x 17 and wrapped in 215/40/R17 tires; the 8J x 18 in 215/35/R18s.

Prices for a new set of wheels start at €1,106.

Fiat 500 by Novitec

The new Fiat 500 may be Car of the Year, but Novitec can always find a way to improve on things like performance and exclusivity when it comes to Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and of course Fiat.

Starting with the engines, Novitec has taken the 1.3 liter JTD turbo-diesel to 83 hp / 61 kW from its stock 70 hp / 51.5 kW, reducing its 0-100 km/h sprint time to 11.9 seconds and raising its top speed to 165 km/h. All this is possible through a plug-and-play control module available for just Euro 335.

The 1.4 liter 16-valve petrol engine receives a supercharger, boosting its output to 131 hp / 96.4 kW while torque increases from 131 Nm to 172 Nm. The nimble little engine can propel the Fiat 500 from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.8 seconds while its top speed is 198 km/h.

Novitec also offers a stainless steel exhaust with either one or two exhaust tips, a front apron with spoiler and additional air dams and 16 or 17 inch multi-spoke wheels (up to 215/35 R 17 for front and rear) with matching suspension modifications. There are two option in regards to the suspension, either sport springs in combination with the production shock absorbers or a height-adjustable coil-over sport suspension set which can lower the car from 30 mm to 80mm.

Hamann Sportivo Based on Fiat 500

Coming somewhat as a surprise, renowned BMW tuning house Hamann have revealed a tuning package for the new Fiat 500. Labelled as the Sportivo the new tuning program took the Hamann engineers into unchartered territory which they duly responded with a lot of joy and enthusiasm. However, even though the end product may look good at first glance, the engineers have failed to put the same effort into this model as we have seen on many of their previous tuning programs.

The German tuner starts with a new set of 17 inch alloy rims and the chassis is lowered by 30mm leading to improved handling and drivability. Further peformance upgrades include a new sport exhaust system devised especially for the 1,4 litre petrol engine providing a thrilling soronous sound and a sports braking system for improved deceleration. The 1,3 Multijet 16V is treated to a power increase of 15hp taking the total up to 90hp by re-programming the integrated control unit.

Interior modifications are limited to an embroidered Hamann sportive logo and a set of aluminium pedals.

Press release:

Normally HAMANN-Motorsport is renowned as a tuning company for BMW and for refining sinfully expensive luxury cars. But sometimes the Laupheim-based technicians move off the beaten tracks and devote themselves to something completely unexpected – in this case the Fiat 500. The HAMANN-technicians started with a lot of joy and enthusiasm for the cool little retro sports car and developed the extensive HAMANN sportivo–tuning programme. Striking 17-inch rims and a lively flag pattern optically emphasize the racy character of this little Italian. The strong sound of the HAMANN-sport exhaust system for the 1,4 litre petrol car also underlines this acoustically. A performance optimization for the diesel model, progressive chassis springs and a newly-developed braking system round out the racy appearance and provide a speedy joyride.

The design wheel HM sportivo I stands for trendy mobile appearance and perfect handling. The matt black varnish rim in one piece has a diamond-polished outer edge and is offered in the size 7.0 x 17. HAMANN recommends matching tyres in the sizes 195/40 ZR17 or 215/34 ZR 17 by its technology partner Hankook. A complete wheel-set can be obtained from 1,420 €. The HAMANN-set for lowering chassis leads to a further improvement in handling the car and ensures that the vehicle centre which is made up from four progressively spun springs is lowered by 30mm.

The sport exhaust system which was especially devised for the 1,4 litre petrol car renders a thrilling sonorous sound. The system includes a muffler (from 390 € onwards) with two round end pipes made of high-grade steel (70 mm diameter), a pre-muffler with metal catalyst and a sport fan manifold. All components can also be obtained individually. Also for this model, HAMANN developed a stable sport braking system for improved deceleration values. The set consists of two perforated and ventilated brake discs (diameter 280 x 28mm) at the front axle in connection with red 4-piston fixed yokes and steal flex brake lines. The back axle can be upgraded with brake discs measuring 240 mm in diameter.

The increased performance by HAMANN costs 699 € for the 1,3 Multijet 16V Fiat 500 diesel model. After re-programming the integrated control unit, the motor renders up to 90 hp / 66 kW at 4,000 r.p.m. (series: 75 hp / 55 KW) and a maximum torque of 230 Nm at 1,750 r.p.m. (series: 145 Nm at 1,500 r.p.m.).

The aluminium pedal set including footrest and a car mat set with an embroidered HAMANN sportive logo accentuate the interior and perfect the Fiat 500 programme in a stylish way.

Fiat 500 Abarth coming soon

“With a strong sporty personality, the new car will be powered by a Fire 1.4 16v petrol Turbo engine, which delivers a maximum of 135 bhp (100kW) at 5,500 rpm and peak torque of 206Nm at 3,000 rpm in ‘Sport’ mode…” says Fiat with a straight face. Say what? Only 135 bhp? We waited so many months for a measly 135 horses? We must have been robbed.

See, previous generation Ford Focus used a 2.0-litre engine to generate a similar amount of buzz in the hood. So 135 seems impressive for a 1.4, albeit force-fed. But scratch under the skin a little and you’ll discover that 500 Abarth’s closest nemesis, MINI Cooper S, squats with 172 horses underneath her belly. Fact is, a region of 135 bhp hasn’t been made by a compact hot hatch since Fiesta ST came into power. That was during the middle ages.

Yes we are simply bowled over by the exceptionally stylish 500 Abarth with its smokey wheels, fat wheel arches and honeycomb mashed grille. It’s the stuff of legends even as it does not move. And when it moves, to 100km/h to be precise, over 8 seconds will go by. Compare this with Cooper S’s 7.3 odd and you start to ask questions like “will they make an even faster version”? They will.

As far as handling goes, Fiat has put to use a Torque Transfer Control system that hugs bends like your aunt used to hug you, promising handling that is highly entertaining. Perhaps I’m missing the point entirely here, perhaps 500 Abarth doesn’t care if the other kid is quicker off the block, or that he is better-endowed. Perhaps. Perhaps Abarth only cares that she can offer the best value entertainment for buck in her block, and believes that being a showstopper doesn’t necessarily involve a test of manhood.

Da Bomb: Fiat 500 sells out in 3 weeks, extra production demanded

Fiat's 500 should be titled the most successful car launch of the year for 2007. After being on sale for only 3 weeks, the cute little bug has blew off Fiat's sales projections. Fiat planned to build 58,000 units of the 500 for this year with annual build capacities planned for 120,000. Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne prompted a boost to the annual build capacity to 140,000 after the mind-blowing success.

Being in showrooms for a mere 3 weeks, the 500's done for the whole year. "As of yesterday, we had received 57,000 dealer orders for the 500, of which 51,000 are from Italy and 6,000 are from France,” stated Marchionne.

Fiat has already initiated in expanding its Tychy plant in Poland to accommodate the extra units rolling off production. Ford is prepping for launch of their next Ka supermini, due to go on sale next fall. The Ka is built alongside the 500 and the Fiat Panda in Poland. By next year, the Tychy plant will be capable of assembling 140,000 Fiat 500s, 240,000 Fiat Pandas and 120,000 Ford Kas. All we can do is hope that Marchionne sees the dear enthusiasm the 500 has garnered in North America. Everyone can dream, can't they?

Say Hello to 500: Fiat officially unveils the 500

The wait is over. Fiat officially unveiled its anticipated 500 today, along with more than one hundred press shots. Following the 50th anniversary of the original iconic 500, the new 500 went on sale immediately. The 500 looks exactly like its ancestor and it follows previous retro-evolutionary vehicles like the MINI Cooper and the Volkswagen New Beetle. However, Fiat intends to market this at a low price which will definitely appeal to everyone. The 500 is widely customizable with a variety of roof designs, body decals, stylish wheels, and even different key styles.

The Cinquecento will be available with a 69HP 1.2L, 75HP 1.3L turbodiesel, and a 1.4L producing 100HP. Fiat will later announce the Abarth version which will be packed with more juice than the conventional 500. Word is that we'll see the 500 sometime after 2010, which is pretty long away. However, if Fiat wants the 500 to be the iPod of cars as they've stated, they better hurry up and start ramping up production for markets other than Europe.

Fiat hopes to build Alfa Romeos in China

Speaking at a recent management awards ceremony in Italy, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne revealed that he hoped to build Alfa Romeo models in China in a possible partnership with Chery Automobile. First reported by Italy’s Finanza & Mercati, Marchionne was quoted as saying “the idea is good and we will do it, but first we have to be sure the Chery plant produces real Alfas and this requires a great commitment on our side both in terms of quality and engineering.”

Fears of quality issues in China’s auto industry is still of great concern, but Fiat has already had some dealing with Chery surrounding its alliance to build engines. “Now we’re aiming at developing a partnership for the Alfa brand,” Marchionne said. Fiat also previously formed a partnership with China’s Nanjing with the Nanjing-Fiat Auto joint venture, but latest reports suggest that Fiat is set to sell its shares with Chery the most likely buyer.

Fiat has lost substantial ground in the Chinese market to manufacturers from Germany and the US, where its rival’s mid-sized sedans are proving popular. Although there’s been no mention of what models would be produced, one of the models is expected to be the new 159. Marchionne also revealed that Fiat was considering launching a new low-cost car under its Innocenti brand for the European market, claiming “it’s one of the opportunities we are assessing.”

New Fiat 500 revealed

These are the first official images of Fiat’s cute 500, the Italian rival to popular minicars such as the MINI Cooper and Nissan Micra. The 500 was originally planned to hit the market in September but it’s now scheduled to be released on the 4th of July, and unlike the original “cinquecento” models of the 1950s, the new 500 will be positioned as a premium model. Fiat will be offering customers multiple customization options to add to the car’s life-style appeal and up-market cachet.

[Source: Motor Authority]

Continued- Article, more hi-res images

Prices should start at close to the €10,000 mark, putting the new 500 above the larger five-door Panda in terms of price. Fiat is expected to sell up to 58,000 units by the end of the year, with this figure likely to jump to around 120,000 cars per year thereafter. Fiat will build the 500 in Tychy, Poland, alongside the upcoming second generation Ford Ka, with which it shares its platform.

The new 500 gets double projector headlights at each side, with a chrome ornament on the front bumper sporting the new Fiat logo. The 500 will only be offered in a three-door configuration and is limited to carrying four passengers. Fiat is launching the 500 with three engines initially. A 1.3L turbodiesel with 75hp (55kW) and two gasoline units with 69hp (51kW) and 100hp (74kW), with all the engines connected to either five or six-speed gearboxes. A high-performance 1.4L unit with 150hp is likely to debut in a sporty Abarth version.

Rival manufacturers are rushing to release their own minicars including premium versions from the likes of Volkswagen and Audi as well as more budget-based models from GM and Toyota. But none of these new models will have the cult-status of the new 500, its popularity garnered by the wholesome appeal of the original. It’s clear that Fiat’s marketing strategy for this model is heavily influenced by BMW’s revived Mini Cooper and we’re sure the new 500 will steal some of its limelight.

Geneva: Fiat Grande Punto Abarth Preview/S2000

Before Abarth was the inhouse tuning and racing division of Fiat, it was an independant automaker and racing team. Fiat purchased the company in 1971 and, if our research proves sound, the last Abarth model by Fiat was the 1984 Ritmo 130 TC Abarth. The rebirth of the Abarth name and a new "Scorpion" logo will be spearheaded by this car, the Grande Punto Abarth Preview, a production version of which will go on sale in September. The show car that will be unveiled in Geneva features a turbocharged 1.4L petrol engine producing 150 bhp, which is 50bhp less than what we originally thought.

At some point later, however, an even more powerful version with 180bhp, twice as much as the base Grande Punto, will be released.
No word on pricing or any deeper details than we've already discussed are available, so you'll have to wait until we touch down in Geneva to learn more. Also on the stand with this car will be the Grande Punto Abarth S2000, a racing version of the production model that will be entered in the 2007 Italian Rally Championship and the Intercontinental Rallye Challenge. It's powered by a much more potent 2.0L engine producing 270bhp and driving all four wheels.

PRESS RELEASE:

The legendary Abarth "Scorpion" returns

A great project will be launched at the 77th Geneva International Motor Show: the rebirth of one of the most prestigious brands in world motorsports. Its symbol is a scorpion, and its name is Abarth.

Abarth has always been synonymous with assertive cars, competitiveness, passion and excitement, and it now returns with a new range that will appeal to all lovers of motorsports. Abarth's first interpretation of the Grande Punto will be on the "catwalk" at the Geneva Show, the first step in an initiative which will later involve other models.

This new adventure starts in the familiar, uniquely emotional context and exclusive setting of the Geneva Motor Show. A striking stand has been prepared, in line with the philosophy of Abarth's rebirth, an innovative space with a fresh, contemporary, technological language and great attention to every detail. The new elements that will publicise the Abarth brand are displayed with all their strong, original personality: the revamped version of the famous Abarth racing stripe has been rendered with LED tiles, while the new logo, the scorpion and the wording are all large, three-dimensional elements in polished, satin-effect aluminium.

The Abarth values and tradition on the other hand are underlined discreetly and technologically: refined materials and precious finishing details in aluminium, carbon fibre, enamel and lacquer decorate the exhibition area, and draw attention to the true stars of the stand: the Grande Punto Abarth S2000, a car that has been type-approved for racing and is proving to be highly successful, and the Grande Punto Abarth Preview, a concept car making its world debut.

These are the two souls of the Abarth world: racing and standard production.

Visitors to the Geneva Show will also have an opportunity to discover a third field in which the brand operates; a multimedia configurator will illustrate the whole concept of the 'Abarth Kit', and the flexibility and wide range of combinations that the brand will offer customers in its conversion kits. Some of these solid wooden boxes, inlaid with satin-finished aluminium trims, are on display inside glass cubes, with the historic mechanical and stylistic components from the conversion kits.

And finally, by means of exclusive LED technology and plasma screens, the walls of the stand propose historical photographs and films, alternating them with a reproduction of the new Abarth racing stripe, underlining the fine link between the past and the future, as well as the energy and personality that are inherent in the Abarth brand.

The Grande Punto Abarth Preview

The absolute star of the stand is the Grande Punto Abarth Preview, a true jewel of assertiveness and elegance. The car will be marketed in September, to enhance the sporty, youthful positioning of the Grande Punto.

The car on show in Geneva is equipped with a 1.4 Turbo petrol engine that delivers 150 bhp at 5500 rpm, boosted to 155 bhp by the adoption of 98 RON petrol. What is more, thanks to a booster kit, a version with twice as much power as the basic version (180 bhp) will soon be available. This is a revival of a tradition from the past: for example, the Fiat 500 of 1958 delivered 13 bhp at 4000 rpm with a top speed of 85 km/h, while the Fiat 500 Abarth of the same year delivered 26 bhp at 5000 rpm and a top speed of 118 km/h.

The Grande Punto Abarth aims to revive the feats of these entertaining performance cars, offering young drivers in particular an opportunity to enter the racing world in complete safety and at an accessible price.

The Grande Punto Abarth S2000

The public in Geneva will also be able to admire the extraordinary Grande Punto Abarth S2000. This is a racing car designed for racing stables, which the Fiat Racing Department will be entering in the 2007 Italian Rally Championship with Giandomenico Basso and his navigator Mitia Dotta. Davide Gatti, winner of the 2006 Fiat Abarth International Trophy, will compete at the wheel of an official Fiat Grande Punto R3D with a diesel engine. On the international scene, the Grande Punto Abarth S2000 will compete in the IRC (Intercontinental Rally Challenge) with drivers Andrea Navarra, his navigator Guido D'Amore, and young Umberto Scandola and Anton Alen.

The Abarth & C. Spa racing team will be managed by Claudio Berro.

Powered by a 2000 cc aspirated engine that delivers 270 bhp, with 4-wheel drive, the new Grande Punto Abarth S2000 is heir to the version that took the 2006 Italian Rally Championship title with Paolo Andreucci and Anna Andreussi, winning 7 of the 11 races on the programme. Nor must we forget the excellent season of their team-mates Andrea Navarra and Guido D'Amore who took third place. Giandomenico Basso and Mitia Dotta won the European title and the International Rally Challenge.

Since its debut last season, the racing version has proved unbeatable, whatever the type of route or terrain. And we must underline that the 15 cars built so far have been ordered by several racing stables in Europe and elsewhere, to compete in domestic and international rallies. And now, thanks to this technological and competitive superiority, the new Grande Punto Abarth S2000 is ready to compete in these two championships with the same determination and assertiveness.

And finally, as well as a successful car and an outstanding team of drivers, the new Abarth & C. company can also boast a staff with a great deal of experience in motorsports: a total of 113 experts, 26 in the engineering field, 43 on the manufacturing side and 9 dedicated to racing.

Geneva: 2008 Fiat Bravo

Everything the Italians do is sexy, not just Ferraris and Lamborghinis. We know the Alfa Romeo Brera is auto erotica, but who knew how drop dead gorgeous this little economy car from Italian automaker Fiat would be? Autoblog went to Geneva and scrutinized the new Bravo inside and out. Dipped in a thick coat of Candy Apple Red, the Fiat Bravo on display looked delicious parked next to an equally yummy Fiat spokeswoman. We were a little concerned that the heavily doctored press shots that first impressed us would give way to disappointment on seeing our first live pics, but it turns out the new car's simple yet classic lines impress even in the flesh.

Though they would have likely spent too much time walking round and round the new Bravo on its display stand, Alberto got down to business and crawled inside of one to test the interior. He's reporting that fit and finish is definitely improved over previous small cars from the big boot, and that the materials, in particular the soft plastic used on top of the dash, feels very rich. He had a few issues with some handles in the car, but was impressed with the inclusion of a USB interface to stream music to the car's stereo from a portable music device.

There are three gas engines available that offer 90, 120 and 150 horsepower, respectively, as well as a pair of diesels pumping out 120 and 150 horsepower. We'll admire the new Fiat Bravo from afar, for like most of the vehicles in Geneva this week, arrival in the U.S. is not an option.

PRESS RELEASE:

Fiat Bravo

The model in brief

When Beauty encounters Substance

The new Fiat Bravo is a perfect balance of Beauty and Substance, another milestone in the process to update the brand's product range. This extraordinary period of change is symbolised by the new logo that makes its debut on the front of this new model, with which Fiat will tackle the challenges of the future, without turning its back on its past century of history. This essential sign, full of references to tradition, was created to express 'change in continuity', and to represent from a modern viewpoint a human and technological heritage that few of the world's carmakers can boast. Historical identity and state-of-the-art engineering skills, pride in its past and a renewed determination to innovate: this is the context in which the new Fiat Bravo was developed, a beautiful well-built Italian hatchback, which is agile, entertaining to drive, and competitive, thanks to the excellent balance between content and price. The new Fiat Bravo is 'concrete beauty', a car that reiterates the aesthetic canons of Italian styling tradition. It was designed to give customers the substance that comes from outstanding safety and reliability, coupled with the enjoyable, sporty driving style that the whole world expects from an Italian car.
The new model was presented in the spectacular setting of the Stadium of Marble in Rome, the Eternal City, in one of the most important examples of Neoclassical architecture. This beautiful stadium, which is inside the Foro Italico, was built in the 1930s by Renato Ricci (1896-1956), who decided to decorate the stands with an array of statues in Greek style produced by young sculptors who were unknown at the time. The end result is an extraordinary stadium where each figure, sculpted in white marble, embodies the power of an athletic movement in a form of refined beauty. One of the characteristics of Neoclassical art was to reproduce reality by taking Beauty as the ideal of perfection and balance, not just copying nature but trying to grasp its intrinsic essence.
The decision was a pondered one, because the goal of this artistic movement, which developed in Europe between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, was to recover in a contemporary key the aesthetics, forms, noble materials, building techniques and artisan skills of Graeco-Roman tradition, the cradle of every subsequent artistic manifestation of Western culture: from literature to the theatre, music and architecture. The neoclassical artist did not improvise, but summed up tradition in every work, with exemplary control over his emotions, perfect mastery of his materials and a broad knowledge of history.

The choice of this site underlines an ideal parallel with the Bravo project. When they developed the project, the engineers, designers, technicians and marketing staff also set out to create a 'new classic': in the design, by references to the great Italian styling tradition; by respecting the 'fundamentals', such as the quality of the materials and the assembly, safety, and exploitability of space, and comfort, which have always decreed a car's success; and finally, in the technological components and cutting edge engineering processes, including recourse to virtual development techniques that have made it possible to cut lead times and to check even the tiniest details related to quality and performance thousands of times.

Rigour and Love: the best way of creating a car

The launch is charged with other symbolism. The New Fiat Bravo project challenged accepted paradigms where the design and development of a new model are concerned, in terms of time and methodologies. This extraordinary result was achieved thanks to the rigorous integration of the best processes, and the application of the most advanced technologies, but above all the essential contribution of Fiat's men and women, and the commitment, creativeness and love that they put into their work. To convey this immense undertaking, for the debut of the new Bravo, Fiat insisted on the extraordinary participation of the performers of 'Le Cirque du Soleil': a perfect organisation, but above all 'the best artists in the world', as the international press has described them. It is certainly one of the most extraordinary live performances on the planet.

'Le Cirque du Soleil' employs about 3000 people, and performers include numerous Olympic champions and former champions, who currently give life to 5 resident companies (all in the United States) and 6 touring companies that perform simultaneously all over the world, and are regularly sold out. The various shows share maniacal attention to the tiniest detail, because everything is done by hand and nothing is left to chance. It was the first time that 'Le Cirque du Soleil' has put on a performance in Italy designed specifically for a corporate event, in front of an audience of more than 6,000 journalists, dealers, suppliers and representatives of large client companies from 72 countries, plus 3000 children from Rome who attended the first night and enjoyed a magical dream come true.

The parallel with the Circus world is appropriate, because the circus is hard work, talent, and creativeness, preparation and dedication, professional skill and passion, coordination, collaboration and teamwork, dexterity and lightness, magic without tricks, a dream but not an illusion. Just like the project to develop a new car: months of hard work, involving hundreds of people, and a huge investment. A perfect mechanism, for a spectacle that leaves no space for pretence or for second chances. At the first turn of the key, everything must function perfectly, year in and year out, repeat after repeat.

'Authentic Italian Beauty'

Designed by the Fiat Style Centre, the model sets out to attract the public with its uncluttered, smooth lines, which on one hand confirm Fiat's determination to create a new 'family feeling', beginning with the Grande Punto, while on the other hand they reinvent the stylistic elements of the great Italian car-making tradition, without exaggeration or stylistic excesses: authentic beauty in other words, that is reassuring and easy to understand. The raked, forward windscreen, the drop-shaped headlights, the sporty grille that frames the new logo, and even the colour chosen for the launch campaign, known as Maranello Red, which is a clear tribute to the best-known symbol of Italian automotive excellence: Ferrari.

The new Fiat Bravo is born from this cultural and stylistic heritage, a five-door saloon with a sleek, aggressive line, which is refined and compact at the same time. It is 434 centimetres long, 179 cm wide, and 149 cm high, with a wheelbase of 260 cm, and a loading capacity of 400 litres that tops its class.

The beautiful 'dress' made by Fiat contains all the substance of a car built to surprise in the category that rules the European market, to convince a clientele that considers the cars of this class as a real investment, because they are the family's main car. The Bravo aims to make the difference in terms of quality, comfort, practicality and the versatility of the interior. Anyone who gets into the car will immediately be aware of the quality leap that everyone at Fiat was determined to achieve. The refinement of the materials and the colour combinations, the solidity, attention to detail and painstaking assembly, all represent a new standard for Fiat and a benchmark for the market.

Innovation, reliability and quality

Substance also means performance, safety and technology.

The launch of the new Fiat Bravo is also an opportunity to present the new family of turbocharged T-JET petrol engines (120 and 150 bhp 1.4 Turbo), which combine fuel economy, low emissions and exceptional performance, and now join the popular range of Multijet common rail turbodiesels (1.9 litres delivering 120 and 150 bhp) and the 90 bhp 1.4 16v petrol engine.

Comfort is enhanced by the pinpoint steering and excellent roadholding, and the choice of two tried and tested suspension systems which have been suitably modified and updated: an independent MacPherson system at the front, and a semi-independent torsion axle with interconnected wheels at the rear.

The Fiat Bravo was designed to score maximum points in passive and active safety tests, thanks to several airbags (as many as 7), three-point seat-belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters, and five head-restraints. Another aspect of safety regards the 'Pedestrian impact', which was taken into account during the design of the chassis, designed to maximise the absorption of this type of impact. The new model also features the most sophisticated electronic systems to monitor the vehicle's dynamic behaviour, such as ABS complete with EBD, the sophisticated ESP system with a Hill Holder, and ASR anti-slip regulation.

The Fiat Bravo embodies new technologies, not only where engineering is concerned, but also in the use of electronics at the service of comfort and well-being on board. The best example of this is the new generation of the 'Blue&Me' system, known as 'Blue&Me Nav'. This technology, which is a Fiat Group exclusive, developed with Microsoft, combines the functions of the first generation with a highly efficient pictogram navigation system, and access to a series of telematic services, that convey the true spirit of Fiat: simple, useful and at the right price.
The 'dual-zone' automatic climate system, a choice of two radios with specific Hi-Fi systems, the large panoramic opening sunroof, Cruise Control, a rain sensor, parking sensors and foglights with a self-adaptive cornering function, complete the array of equipment to customise the car, and to make life on board a pleasure for every occupant.

And finally, to underline the generosity of this project, the Fiat Bravo range will be broad and comprehensive right from its launch, with a choice of 5 engines, 12 elegant liveries and 4 outfit levels (Active, Dynamic, Emotion and Sport), all designed to offer the customer outstanding value for money.

Made in Italy, Sold around the world

The new Fiat Bravo aims to become the benchmark for what is the most important segment of the European market, which accounted for over 3,400,000 cars sold in 2006, or little more than one fifth of the total market (a value that has been practically constant since 2000).

It is clearly a very interesting segment but one that is also highly competitive, with about 30 different models, from full-liners and premium European, Asian and American manufacturers. We should also underline that the largest grouping in the medium sized saloon category is made up of 2-box saloons or hatchbacks, which account for over 71% of sales. About 25% of total sales for this category are destined to the corporate market, where qualities such as residual value, operating costs, reliability and price are important considerations. But these are areas in which the Fiat Bravo will be one of the most competitive models on the market. With these expectations, the long-established plant in Piedimonte S. Germano (Frosinone) and its 3500 employees are preparing themselves enthusiastically to turn out an average of 120,000 cars a year, which will be marketed in 55 countries around the world, starting in 2007.

Geneva Preview: Abarth Grande Punto Preview Concept

Fiat has done a spectacular job in designing the new Bravo. We hope the style and everything else combined to create this masterpiece, won't intercept with its homonymous 90's predeccesor.

Following its presentation yesterday in Rome, we can now deliver to you the official photos of the new Bravo, Fiat's new compact that'll arrive in Europe in the next few weeks.

Despite the length of the press release we've pasted after the jump, you're best served scrolling to the end to find the real information (unless you're interested in flowery prose about Cirque du Soleil). We can tell you that the gasoline engines available are a 1.4L 16v making 90 HP and a pair of new turbocharged T-JET mills that also displace 1.4L but have outputs of 120 and 150HP. Buyers can also opt for one of two 1.9L Multijet turbodiesels that also deliver either 120 or 150 horses.

Additional goodies for the Italian Golf-fighter include niceties such as the Blue&Me navigation/telematics system co-developed with Microsoft exclusively for the Fiat Group, a panoramic sunroof, and the usual litany of expected convenience features.
