The next-generation Ford Fiesta subcompact hatchback will arrive in the US in 2009. Motor Trend conducted a short interview with Ford execs, and it appears the redesigned version will go on sale in Europe in 2008.
The US version will look nearly identical to its European counterpart, said Martin Smith, Ford of Europe Design Chief. The North American (and the European) version will retain the "Kinetic" design theme found on the Mondeo and the S-MAX, instead of using the "Bold" design theme found on the Taurus, Edge, and Flex.

It will definitely be a "Kinetic-design" car, noted Smith. Most likely, the Fiesta will cue the trapezoidal grille, sharp headlights, and bulging wheel arches, all cued on Ford's Reflex Concept shown in early 2006.
The Fiesta is set to launch in the US sometime in late 2009, and will share platform with the recently introduced Mazda2 (Demio in Japan). The next Fiesta will lose some of its body weight and will feature a 1.6-liter powertrain. Expect a wider variety of petrol and diesel engines when it hits market in Europe in 2008.
