Hyundai Confirms Elantra Coupe For This Spring, New Azera By 2012

Hyundai’s product onslaught is scheduled to continue with two new or redesigned models that will be launched by January 2012. Following the recent Hyundai Veloster that made its debut at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show, Hyundai announced today at a dealer meeting in San Francisco that it plans to introduce a two-door coupe version of the Elantra this spring, as well as the redesigned Azera early next year.

No details have been disclosed about the upcoming Elantra Coupe. We expect it to carry the same 148 horsepower 1.8-liter engine, meaning we expect the highly touted 40 MPG rating to stick around as well. Following the Elantra, Hyundai plans to introduce the redesigned Azera for the North American market in January 2012. The 2012 Hyundai Azera will be powered by a direct-injected 3.3L V6 gasoline engine making 260-hp and will be more fuel-efficient than the current model.

Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai’s U.S. sales boss, said that the 2012 Azera will have the potential to sell between 18,000 to 20,000 units annually in the United States, which is a big leap from the model’s current volume.

Hyundai Wants You To Snap Out Of It With Its Super Bowl Commercials [w/VIDEO]

In what Hyundai likes to call “a group therapy session,” the automaker’s Super Bowl Ads to air for the first time during the Big Game on February 6 will comprise three TV spots aimed at brainwashing consumers into turning their attention towards the company’s 2011 Elantra and Sonata Hybrid models.

Specifically, Hyundai will begin promoting the new Elantra with a spot called "Hypnotized", followed by a healing session with an ad called "Deprogramming". These two will be followed by a third spot starring the 2011 Sonata Hybrid, titled “Anachronistic City”.

“Both offer the all-new 2011 Elantra as treatment for the malaise afflicting the long-suffering compact car shopper,” Hyundai says. “Hyundai marks its fourth consecutive year as a Super Bowl advertiser by deprogramming 100 million Americans tuned in to watch the game.”

The three spots are themed “Snap Out of It” and feature Hyundai's 2011 "New Thinking, New Possibilities" brand vision. Taken separately, Hypnotized will air in the game's first quarter, followed by Deprogramming in the third quarter, and ending with the Anachronistic City in the fourth.

"We love the Super Bowl's ability to transform over 100 million Americans into advertising aficionados, so we went with a playful theme that ties a marketing-driven conspiracy theory to our fresh take on the compact car segment, the 40-mpg Elantra," said John Krafcik, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America. "Building from the first two Elantra ads in the AFC Championship Game, and 10 viral spots online right now, the Super Bowl shifts the campaign into top gear with what may be the biggest group therapy hypnosis session ever attempted."

2011 Hyundai Elantra (USDM): Officially Revealed

Nothing new to see here today. The embargo on the all-new 2011 Hyundai Elantra for the North American market has been lifted today, ahead of the car's scheduled unveiling later this week at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. But does that really matter when it has been on sale in its home market (as the Avante) for numerous months now? Nonetheless, we tip our hats to Hyundai for keeping the new Elantra relatively unchanged from its Korean counterpart.

The biggest news of the all-new Elantra, other than its widely-adulated design, is what's under the hood. Powered by Hyundai's brand-"Nu" 1.8-liter 4-cylinder, the new Elantra makes 148-hp at 6500 rpm and 131 ft-lbs of torque at 4700 rpm. Perhaps more impressive is the fact that with that power output, coupled with a standard 6-speed transmission (manual or automatic) the car will achieve 29-mpg city and 40-mpg highway. And even more impressive is the fact that the figures apply to all trim levels of the Elantra, negating the need for a special high-mileage trim like the Chevrolet Cruze Eco.

Just two Elantra trim levels will be offered: GLS and Limited, with all models getting features like power windows with driver’s auto-down, remote keyless entry, six airbags and disc brakes at all corners. Limited models add items like fog lights, heated mirrors, a sunroof, 17-inch aluminum wheels (15-inch steel wheels are standard), leatherette door inserts, a leather-wrapped telescopic steering wheel with cruise and audio controls, heated leather front seats and even heated leather rear seats.

Thankfully Hyundai also offers a packages for the base GLS model including a Popular Equipment Package that adds cruise control, A/C, a telescopic steering wheel and 16-inch steel wheels. A Preferred Equipment Package adds on 16-inch alloy wheels, steering wheel audio controls, a Bluetooth hands-free phone system with voice recognition, a sliding center armrest and some upgraded interior trim. A Navigation package can also be had with a 7-inch monitor, while the Limited Premium Package includes items like a 360-watt audio system, as well as a “proximity key” and push-button ignition.

Stay tuned for news on pricing with the official reveal this Thursday at the LA Auto Show.

2011 Hyundai Elantra Makes Early Debut at Cars and Coffee

Let's face it: that whole photo-op set up by the folks at Hyundai with one of their reps looking mock-shocked that the 2011 Hyundai Elantra had been "discovered" was quite silly really.

Perhaps to save themselves from further embarassment, Hyundai decided to prematurely take the wraps off the all-new US-spec Elantra, scheduled for debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show next week, by bringing one example for the public eye at a recent Cars and Coffee meet in California. And who else would have been behind the wheel of the car other than the CEO of Hyundai Motor America himself John Krafcik.

Thanks to esteemed automotive journalist Frank Filipponio, we have our very first candid look at the US-spec 2011 Hyundai Elantra. Head over to his website, Frank4cars, to see the high resolution photos in full glory.

Hyundai Elantra Teased Ahead of Los Angeles Auto Show Debut

Hyundai has just released a lighthearted "spy photo" of the next-generation Elantra on their Twitter page in advance of the compact sedan's debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show next week.

Hyundai showed the above photo of the next-generation U.S.-spec Elantra (and a staged, startled PR rep) with only a bit of sheetmetal exposed on Twitter today.

The Elantra will be built at Hyundai's Montgomery, Alabama, production facility alongside the Sonata, starting later this fall, and will reach dealerships in early 2011.

Keep your eyes here for all your updates on the Hyundai Elantra and all the other debuting vehicles headed to the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Hyundai Releases Aero Kit for Avante/Elantra: Korea

Hyundai has released the first images of the new Avante/Elantra compact sedan with the company's new OEM aero kit and visual enhancements. The cosmetic upgrades are designed by Hyundai's new tuning branch for the South Korean market called TUIX (coined after "Tuning is Innovation & Expression).

Several exterior upgrades are available for the Avante from Hyundai's TUIX, including front/side/rear skirts, chrome beltline molding, rear spoiler, fuel cap, and sporty dark grey 17-inch alloy wheels. No performance upgrades are available from Hyundai at this point.

As of now, these visual upgrades will not be available for purchase in any markets other than South Korea. We will, however, stick with the adage "never say never", and speculate that Hyundai might be eyeing the customization-happy North American market as its first overseas foray into this field.

Hyundai to Build Elantra at Alamaba Plant

Hyundai will begin building the new Elantra compact at its factory in Montgomery, Alabama late this fall, the Korean automaker announced today.

The Elantra, previously built in South Korea, will be an all-new model introduced in showrooms early next year. It will make its U.S. debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

Hyundai said that with the Elantra, along with the Sonata and the Santa Fe, it is building its three top U.S. sellers in the United States.

Production of the Santa Fe was recently moved to Kia's West Point, Georgia plant to free room for Sonata and Elantra production. The West Point plant also produces the Kia Sorento, which shares platforms with the Hyundai Santa Fe.

The company has produced 1.2 million cars at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama since production began in May 2005.

Hyundai Announces Details on Next Accent, Elantra, and Veloster for North America

Hyundai has released auto show information and on-sale dates of three upcoming small cars today.

First of all, Hyundai confirmed our hunch that the RB Concept, recently unveiled at the Moscow International Auto Show, will indeed reach North American markets as the Accent. Hyundai said that the next Accent will go on sale in the U.S. in mid-2011. The automaker also said the production RB will offer a choice of two four-cylinder engines: a 122 horsepower 1.6-liter and a 105 horsepower 1.4-liter. This might be the case for North American models as well.

The redesigned Elantra sedan for North America is coming to this year's Los Angeles International Auto Show held in November. According to Inside Line, the new Elantra, already on sale in South Korea as the Avante, will be powered by Hyundai's Theta-II 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The Korean-market Avante is propelled by a direct-injected version of Hyundai's 1.6-liter engine that produces 140 horsepower.

The production Veloster compact sport coupe will make its global debut at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The front-wheel drive coupe will be powered by a direct-injected 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with an output in the 140-horsepower range. The Veloster is expected to go on sale by the end of 2011.

Hyundai Announces New Elantra Launch in US for Later This Year

Hyundai has finally confirmed what's been rumored for months; that the all-new 2011 Avante, the predecessor of which we came to know as the Elantra, is heading to North American shores.

"The new compact sedan will also make its way to overseas markets including U.S. starting the end of the year," Hyundai said in an official statement, without disclosing any more details. Unless there's a change of plans, expect to see the firm's baby Sonata making its first public outing in the States at the Los Angeles Auto Show in mid-November.

Hyundai said that domestic deliveries of the new Avante, which went on sale in South Korea today priced from 14.9 million Won to 18.9 million Won (US$12,700 to US$16,100 based on today's currency exchange rates), are expected to reach 83,000 units by the end of the year, and surpass 125,000 cars in 2011.

The company added it expects to sell as much as 400,000 examples of the Avante / Elantra in overseas markets from 2012.

In South Korea, the 2011 Elantra is powered by a 1.6-liter four-banger with direct-injection delivering 140-horsepower and 171Nm or 126.5 lb-ft of peak torque, matted to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission.

First Video of New Hyundai Avante On the Road Surfaces the Web

And it's especially apparent here that the redesigned Elantra has grown tremendously in size, to the point where it's virtually indistinguishable from the "larger" Sonata. In this video taken on Hyundai grounds, the depicted prototype is demonstrating a self-parking system that the automaker is currently testing for future products.

Oh and if it serves any importance, the Korean text notes that the video was shot on an iPhone 4. Cheers to the immaculate resolution!

All-New Hyundai Avante (Elantra) Pre-Orders Surpass 5000 in S. Korea

Hyundai Motor Company has announced that it has received over 5000 pre-orders for the all-new, redesigned Avante (Elantra) mid-size sedan in its domestic market of South Korea today. The automaker began taking orders on the 21st of June and has since amassed tremendous popularity for the newest addition to its line-up. The new Avante made its public debut at the Busan International Motor Show last April.

For the South Korean market, the Avante is available with a single powertrain: a 1.6L GDI (gasoline direct-injection) Gamma 4-cylinder engine that produces 140 horsepower and 129 lb. ft of torque. It is mated to either a standard 6-speed manual transmission or an available 6-speed automatic. The new Avante is packed with a myriad of standard features such as six airbags and rear parking assist, as well as optional items including HID headlamps, segment-first rear heated seats, and a 10-way power adjustable driver seat.

Expect to see the redesigned Avante cross the Pacific to make its North American debut early next year.

Change of mind?: Hyundai introduces incentives in response to Toyota's recalls

Hyundai Elantra Touring
Current Toyota owners thinking of buying a car this weekend have a new incentive from Hyundai: $1,000 in cash back on top of other current incentives. It’s good on only three models — the 2009-2010 Elantra, Elantra Touring and Sonata. This matches a similar incentive GM launched earlier this week and runs through Monday but may be extended.

Hyundai spokesman Dan Bedore says the company is not looking to capitalize on another automaker’s misfortune but has to stay competitive while other automakers offer similar deals.

There is currently $1,500 cash back on the 2009 Elantra Touring, $1,000 cash back on the 2010 Elantra Touring, $3,000 in cash back on the 2009 Sonata, $3,500 cash back on the 2010 Sonata and $2,000 cash back on the 2009 Elantra and $1,500 cash back on the 2010 Elantra. These amounts are in addition to the $1,000 Toyota incentive. You can be a current owner of any Toyota model, not just a competing one to the three eligible Hyundais.

Spied: 2011 Hyundai Elantra (MD)

2011 Hyundai ElantraToday, we bring you more close-up spy shots of the upcoming redesigned Elantra sedan by Hyundai. Code-named 'MD', the new Elantra is yet another rendition of Hyundai's Fluidic Sculpture design theme that is also conveyed in the new Sonata and Tucson. The 2011 Elantra sedan will feature a sportier overall appearance, with larger front grille, stretched head-lamps, steeper windshield rake and lower roof-line.

As for now, we have no confirmed details on 2011 Elantra’s engine options but you can expect to see Hyundai’s new 2.0L Theta four-cylinder engine placed under its hood. In addition, Hyundai will probably introduce a 1.6L four-cylinder engine in the entry-level, Elantra Blue model, which will achieve above average mileage thanks to the applied gasoline direct injection technology.

The sales date has not been confirmed for the 2011 Elantra. However, sources report that the launch date is tentatively scheduled for July of 2010. Our take? With Hyundai's 24/7 in full force, we expect the Elantra to be launched much earlier, especially considering the fact that the new compact sedan is next in line for unveiling according to the brand's plan. We will see for now.

Spied: Interior shots of 2011 Hyundai Elantra (MD)

Hyundai Elantra MDAfter a long hiatus of spy shots of the next-generation Hyundai Elantra, we have the first clear images of the completed interior of the brand's popular compact offering. Sales: Hyundai Canada Posts Best September Ever

Hyundai Santa FeHyundai has been breaking sales records in Canada throughout 2009, and September was no exception to the trend. With 9,282 units sold in September, the company's total year to date sales volume reached 82,642 vehicles - surpassing its best ever annual sales volume, set in 1985, by nearly 2.5 per cent.

September sales were up year-over-year by more than 30 per cent. This marks the company's eighth straight record-breaking month and ninth consecutive month of sales increases. Ranked globally as the fourth largest automaker (behind only Toyota, GM and Volkswagen), Hyundai is Canada's sixth largest manufacturer by volume as of end-of-August figures.

In the showrooms, the Santa Fe has enjoyed particular sales success. Selling 2,478 units, September 2009 was the Santa Fe's best on record and represented an increase of more than 70 per cent over September 2008. The Elantra also enjoyed its best September ever with 2,039 units, a staggering 129 percent increase from the same month last year.
