He also said that the Grand Cherokee was designed and developed before the Fiat partnership.

Jeep has provided confirmation that the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 will be arriving this summer. Official details have yet to be announced but as Chrysler previewed last year, a bigger, beefier version of the current 6.1-liter HEMI engine is expected. This engine could be enlarged to 6.4-liters and is expected to generate more than 500hp, possibly as high as the BMW M SUVs’ 555hp figure. This much power, when combined with the new 2011 Grand Cherokee’s improved chassis, could just be enough for it to regain the top spot in the juiced-up SUV segment.

This truck won’t be complying with CAFÉ standards but since sales will be limited, Jeep might find this endeavor worthwhile. The truck could be seen as a practical alternative to the German and English alternatives if it is given a proper suspension setup and if it gets sufficient features.

Limited Edition Led Zeppelin Jeep Patriot for UK

Co-branded joint ventures between pop-icons and car makers are nothing new. In recent years, we've seen the pairing of Mercedes with the Rolling Stones, Slash of Guns N Roses fame with VW and Honda with Black Eye Peas and Fall Out Boy.

In what is being touted as the Holy Grail of rock reunions, Legendary rock band, Led Zeppelin, have agreed to do a one-time performance in London's O2 Arena on November 26th. Speculated as the biggest demand for one show in history, the marketing and sponsorship frenzy is not surprising, especially, when legendary guitarist, Jimmy page, and lead singer, Robert Plant, have admitted that money was a major factor influencing the decision to perform a reunion show in earlier years.

Enter the Limited Edition Led Zeppelin Jeep Patriot. With only seven examples to be produced, the Patriots are available this week only. In other words, since the 20,000 tickets are obviously sold out, the only possible way to still see the show, is to buy this car for a massively marked up £34,860 which includes two VIP tickets, champagne reception and access to the after-show party. How badly, do you want to go to this show?

Somehow, I don't think they'll have any trouble selling them. However, just in case you're interested in the car, the Patriot model is a 2.0 CRD Sport edition, with Air Conditioning, Cruise Control, Two-Tone leather, privacy glass, 6-speed manual gearbox, Remote Central Locking, 4x Electric windows and a premium sound system in addition to a specially created graphics on the side of the car.

Not since Berlin 1980 has the entire band performed together just months prior to the unfortunate death of drummer John Bonham. Despite limited number of performances in the 80's and 90's which did not include bassist, John Paul Jones, all three member's will be present plus John Bonham's son, Jason, filling in on drums.

STARTECH Jeep Compass Accessories

The Jeep Compass has arrived and in time for the market introduction of the new compact SUV STARTECH already offers an exclusive customization program and powerful performance tuning for the turbodiesel model.

The STARTECH SD3 performance kit for the diesel model consists of an auxiliary module that modifies the engine electronics. With it maximum power output of grows from stock 140 hp / 103 kW to 180 hp / 132 kW. At the same time peak torque increases to 360 Nm between 1,750 and 2.500 rpm.

As an optimal complement to the STARTECH SD3 power kit there is the STARTECH sport exhausts system with a large oval chrome tailpipe on either side. The fully stainless-steel precise-fit exhaust is available for all engine variants of the Compass, and lends the Jeep a more thrilling exhaust note. For customizing the exterior STARTECH offers a custom-tailored designer suit. In the front the Compass gets a new face with the STARTECH front fascia. Retaining the original mounting points means easy installation and optimal precise fit.

The sides of the five-door are refined by elegant STARTECH rocker panels that serve as running boards. The rear of the Jeep is modified with an element that attaches to the rear bumper. It features integrated cutouts for the STARTECH sport exhaust.

'20-inch diameter instead of the 18-inch stock wheels' is the motto of the exclusive STARTECH tire/wheel combination for the Compass. The Monostar IV five-spoke wheels are silver polished and in size 9Jx20 with size 245/35 R 20 tires they fill out the wheel houses nicely. STARTECH also offers progressive-rate springs that lower the ride height of the American SUV by some 30 millimeters. The lowered center of gravity gives the Jeep sportier and even safer handling characteristics.

STARTECH also adds exclusive and individual interior highlights. These include stainless-steel door sills with illuminated STARTECH logo, high-quality velour floor mats and the STARTECH Lifestyle interior upgrade package that gives the entire Compass cockpit a more elegant appearance.

Chrysler LLC's New (Old) Logo

Chrysler is deep in the process of rebuilding itself from the recent break-up with DCX. Under a new management by Cerberus Capital Management, the new Chrysler brings in former CEO of Home Depot, a new name (Daimler-Chrysler to Chrysler LLC), and a new logo. Hopefully, we'll see some competitive offerings in the bunch as well.

Regarding the logo, all we can say is: the pentastar is back. Defunct since the 1980's, Chrysler brought back the famous pentastar design for its new logo. It has its share of cons as well as the pros. For example, how would the pentastar look on the Chrysler 300? Fortunately, the new logo will be utilized in advertising and promotional uses only.

Recall: DaimlerChrysler to recall over 80,000 Nitros and Wranglers

The latest recall comes from the folks of Auburn Hills and this one affects a huge amount of vehicles, 80,894 to be exact. Models affected are the new Jeep Wrangler and the Dodge Nitro for a faulty power module. A brief interruption of the electrical power of the engine and the instrument panel can shortly stall the vehicle. Chrysler won't charge fees for the recall service and they expect all vehicles to be serviced by the end of the week. We're crossing our fingers that the recent winner of the Dodge Nitro over at Autoblog isn't affected in this recall.

Jeep unveils Compass Rallye Package from Mopar for the US

Jeep launched the Compass in the UK recently, only to find out the only trim available was the Rallye package that cued the Compass Rallye Concept shown in Frankfurt. Mopar introduced a new Rallye package for the Compass in the US that follows its British counterpart. It's nothing to get excited though as changes are strictly visual, with no modifications under the hood.

The Rallye package is available in both 4x2 and 4x2 variants and prices vary for each trim: $1985 (Sport) and $1850 (Limited). Modifications include black-painted 18" aluminum wheels, roof-mounted rear spoiler, auxiliary driving lights up front, Mopar body kit which modifies the front bumper and side rocker panels, and of course, the shiny Rallye package badges.

New York: 2008 Jeep Liberty

What better way to unveil a new Jeep than in crappy weather? Chrysler PR honcho Jason Vines joked to the assembled journalists that he seeded the clouds this morning to bring the rain down on our heads, and then a few minutes later got pressed into umbrella-holding duty. Karma really sucks, eh?

But enough schadenfraude - let's talk about the 2008 Liberty. Gone are the cute round headlamps, now replaced with something a bit more congruent with Jeep's other SUVs. Everything under the skin gets some refreshing, with the wheelbase stretched a couple inches and the spare tire moved up underneath the vehicle. The interior gets refreshed as well, and while hard plastic still dominates many of the surfaces, the seats are now covered in some fairly nice perforated two-tone leather.

One truly unique feature is the sliding canvas roof, which Jeep calls "Sky Slider" (our condolences to the driver who had to demonstrate open-roof technology in a downpour). As Autoblog points out, it's interesting that a sliding canvas roof is being touted as some kind of innovation when VW Type 1s had sliding canvas sunroofs. Everything old is new again, eh?

The system also includes a voice-memo recorder feature. MyGIG supports real-time traffic information, available through SIRIUS Satellite Radio, and can provide an alternate drive route based on traffic conditions. All of these functions can be controlled through voice commands and by utilizing a touch screen.

SIRIUS Satellite Radio provides U.S. customers with 130 channels, including 100 percent commercial-free music, sports, news, talk, entertainment, traffic and weather. And the UConnect® hands-free communication system uses Bluetooth® technology to provide wireless communication between the customer's compatible mobile phone and the vehicle's on-board receiver.

Manufacturing
The 2008 Jeep Liberty will be built using Chrysler Group's modern production process, called the Flexible Manufacturing Strategy (FMS). FMS allows multiple products to be produced at one plant in a time-efficient manner that are a higher quality for lower cost. At the core of the new manufacturing process is the heavy use of robots at the Toledo (Ohio) North Assembly Plant.

New York Preview: 2008 Jeep Liberty

Jeep debuted the Liberty for model-year 2002 as the replacement for the 18-year-old Cherokee. The company was hopeful that it could move maybe 160,000 copies of the Liberty in the U.S. per year, and even now, the little SUV that could still does. Jeep sold 133,557 of them in 2006—that’s down from almost 167,000 in 2005, but it’s still a respectable number.

The company figured a six-year model run is long enough, and so the second-generation Liberty debuts at the New York auto show. To what extent Jeep is changing the looks of what has been, next to the Grand Cherokee, its bestseller—well, that’s a bit of a surprise. As with the larger Commander, Jeep has taken the 2008 Liberty in a moderately retro direction to the point where, as the photos suggest, it looks like a slightly shrunken Commander and uncomfortably close to its mechanical twin, the Dodge Nitro. And since the Commander has not exactly been flying out of dealerships, even with $3000 rebates, we’d suspect there’s a little trepidation at HQ in Auburn Hills, Michigan, not to mention at the assembly plant in Toledo, Ohio.

Continued- Article, more images

That said, the 2008 Liberty has some things going for it, including a “Trail Rated” badge that confirms it’s a real Jeep, for those who insist car-based vehicles such as the Compass are diluting the Jeep gene pool. There are, in fact, two four-wheel-drive systems offered—good ol' part-time Command-Trac and the new full-time, on-demand Selec-Trac II. The ’08 Liberty has an all-new independent front suspension and a new five-link rear suspension to control the unruly solid rear axle. Steering is rack-and-pinion. A rear-drive model will be offered, but as before, the product mix favors four-wheel drive.

The 2008 Jeep Liberty has a wheelbase of 106.1 inches, nearly two inches longer than the current model's. Overall length, at 176.9 inches, is an increase of 2.4 inches. Width is up a half-inch, to 72.4 inches.

The original Liberty was offered with the ubiquitous 150-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder and 210-hp, 3.7-liter V-6, but at present, the somewhat feeble iron-block, aluminum-head V-6 is the only engine for 2008. Towing capacity is 5000 pounds. Somewhat surprisingly, the new Liberty doesn’t get the 260-hp, 4.0-liter and five-speed automatic from its twin, the Dodge Nitro. For now, there’s no diesel model for the U.S., either. Jeep stopped building the clattery Liberty CRD last May because it couldn’t meet tougher 2007 emissions standards. Transmission choices are both carry-overs: a six-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. Standard equipment includes electronic stability control with roll mitigation, traction control, and anti-lock brakes with brake assist. Also standard: side airbags and rain-sensing wipers. Sirius satellite radio, Bluetooth, a navigation system, and the MyGig entertainment system, complete with a 20-gig hard drive, are options.

Two models will be offered at rollout—Sport and Limited. Wheel choices are 16-, 17- and 18-inchers. Among the more interesting features is the Sky Slider, a power roof made from “reinforced acrylic cloth” that opens over the front and rear seats. Jeep says it is “weather resistant and leakproof,” but that’s what Renault said about the Le Car, isn’t it?
